There is no shortage of reasons why you may be considering homeschooling your child or children as opposed to enrolling them into a traditional school environment. In households where moving is a frequent occurrence, it can be easier to homeschool your child as opposed to constantly uprooting and resettling them into local schools. You may also have moral objections to the curriculum offered in public schools, and the alternative private institution is not financially feasible. Additionally, some parents of children with learning disabilities want to offer their child the close, one-on-one attention they need to thrive in a learning environment.

Of course, there’s a large gap between knowing that homeschooling is the right choice for your child, and being prepared to carry it out. Fortunately, there are countless resources available to you to help you along the way. The following tips are meant to address common concerns many have about the topic in a manner that is helpful and productive.

One of the most common worries of parents who homeschool is that their child won’t receive the same level of socialization they would in a traditional schooling environment. Fortunately, this is also one of the easiest problems to address. Enroll your child in extracurricular activities that stimulate their interests and give them the opportunity to interact with peers who share these interests. Activities can include anything from service organizations like 4-H and the Boy or Girl Scouts to organized sports and karate lessons. In this way, you can let your child form meaningful and lasting social bonds with other children based on a shared interest in an activity.

Another common worry is the construction of a curriculum. Even well educated parents may feel unqualified when it comes to finding teachable material that keeps their child’s interest, much less meets state standards. Here is where it is extremely helpful to reach out to other parents in your area, as well as for local homeschooling organizations for advice and other means of support. These organizations will be well educated on what is required of parents and may be able to make teaching supplies available to you.

Finally, an extremely common fear among parents is that the financial, personal, and time commitment required will be overwhelming. While the final determination as to whether homeschooling is right for your child lies solely on you, a little research and communication can help you make an informed decision on the matter. Speak openly and honestly with your partner about finances, and whether you will be able to meet expenses with a single income earner. Don’t neglect to talk about the additional emotional support you will need when things get stressful in your new classroom. Again, local homeschooling organizations can help you here as well. Most importantly, speak to your child, and make sure he or she understands that you are both embarking on a mutually beneficial education experience together.

Gone are the days were traditional college students are focused only on their education. College students are now forced to take on many more responsibilities, CLEP testing has proved a very useful tool. These additional responsibilities include family, community/religious involvement, work (both full-time and part-time), and multiple extra-curricular activities. CLEP tests have made time management much easier for these time-stretched students. CLEP exams also allow students to lighten their overall coursework, bypass general requirements, save thousands of dollars, and take home a degree much sooner.

One way that CLEP tests are utilized by students are to bypass introductory coursework to gain access to more interesting, advanced classes. CLEP exams are also used to bypass sitting through generic requirements that lie outside a students major. For example, an economics student can pass an American Government CLEP test to bypass their political science requirement. CLEP tests are also used by students nearing graduation to gain credit for introductory classes outside their major in order to reduce their last years course load so that they have more time to focus on graduation, internships, and beginning their post-graduate career.

The standard CLEP test takes only 90 minutes and will cover the information that would be covered in the first two years (introductory years) of college and are only $70. The College Board, who is the governing body of CLEP tests, currently have 34 unique CLEP exams which cover a wide range of topics. As they have continued to expand, CLEP testing centers are offered within driving distance of any college student. In fact, CLEP testing centers are even available on some military bases. Additionally, almost 3,000 colleges and universities accept CLEP scores as a replacement for traditional college classes.

CLEP tests are especially useful for adults who are getting their college education and already have the required knowledge from their work experience. CLEP exams are also widely utilized by students from other countries to gain foreign language credits.

In order to prepare for CLEP tests, students have many options including: comprehensive CLEP study guides, CLEP study software, and even CLEP online study services. There are even CD’s, DVD’s, and textbooks dedicated to helping a student to excel in their CLEP exams.

Before any student actually takes a CLEP test, it is important to have a conversation with their advisor. Many universities and colleges have different rules about course each CLEP test can replace as well as what CLEP tests are accepted, if any, by the institution. Academic advisors also will be able to assist the student with which CLEP study materials will be most effective for each student.

The Sandhill Research and Education Center is a 600 acre facility on the northeast side of Columbia, South Carolina. The center is owned by Clemson University and is used as an agricultural research facility and lab. Its environmental conservation researchers develop best management practices for agriculture and forestry. The facility also provides garden information as part of its cooperative extension services.
While the research going on at the center is important, many visitors to Sandhill REC come for other reasons. The public is able to access the facilitys hiking trails and childrens garden, as well as purchase fresh produce at the seasonal farmers market. All of these activities are free to the public. Sandhill Research and Education Center also hosts several festivals and community events each year, including the long running Sparkleberry Country Fair in April.

Visitors will find two hiking trails at Sandhill REC. The Hardwoods Wetlands Trail begins at the lake. Heading downhill from the earthen dam, the trail crosses a stream via a wooden bridge. The 1 mile loop trail takes hikers through a mixed forest of pines and hardwoods. The forest floor is carpeted with ferns, which provide habitat for wildlife including deer and a variety of birds. The Conservation Station Interpretive Trail is a .5 mile loop trail. Visitors can enter the trail through a wooden door in the fence at the parking lot. Six educational kiosks highlight information on geology, forestry, soil, wildlife, water quality, and air quality. Hikers can walk out on a dock in the lake to view the lake habitat. They may see turtles, frogs, fish, snakes, and even alligators. Swimming and fishing in the lake are not permitted. The trails are open from 8am-dusk.

Children will love the Sandhill REC Childrens Garden. This area is actually several environmentally themed garden rooms. There is a Butterfly Garden, a Bird Garden, an Alphabet Garden, the Carolina Fence Garden, Mr. McGregors Garden, the Dinosaur Garden, a Rain Garden, and the Three Bears Homestead. The gardens are self guided and may be explored anytime during open hours. Visitors are welcome to bring lunch or a snack to enjoy at the picnic tables. Children will also want to play at the nearby Pooh Garden Playground.

The 2012 Sandhill Farmers Market will be open every Tuesday afternoon from May 1-November 20. Hours are 1-7pm. Visitors will be able to purchase the best in local produce, meat, eggs, butter, cheese, honey, baked goods, flowers, and plants. Many organic products will be available. Public schools are not always adapted to the needs of every child, which is why many parents are choosing homeschooling instead. Homeschooling may not be as simple as you think. This piece includes key material if you are considering homeschooling.

Keep crafting materials on hand in your homeschooling area. If you are homeschooling two children, one child can do an independent crafting project while you teach the other his lesson. Encourage your children to be creative and to use the supplies to create something related to the last lesson you went over. It is a great way to learn.rn.

Homeschooling gives your child many unique benefits that aren’t possible in the typical school setting. However, if you want to make sure that your education is keeping your child in line or ahead of their peers, you may want to take part in the standardized testing your state offers. If your child tests below average, you may want to hire outside help to teach them that subject.

Educate yourself on homeschooling laws. Homeschooling rules change in different states, so you need to know what you are required to abide by. For example, some states require standardized testing, while other states do not require such testing. Some states force homeschool parents to register as private schools.

Be sure to be thoroughly prepared prior to embarking on the process of homeschooling. Set a workable schedule and use teaching methods that work for your child’s learning style.

Older children should be helping younger children at all times. If there are children who are older or who are more advanced in their education, you can let them help the younger kids. You will help the older child build confidence and allow the younger to learn in and different way. They might be able to relate better.

Plan your family meals well in advance to ease the stress of meal prep during the school day. You can cook in bulk and freeze your meals to serve at a future date. Cooking ahead of time is a good way to remain focused on the lessons of the day. Experiment with different schedules to determine the best course of action.

Learn what local laws you must follow. Regulations vary from state to state; some require formal registration, while others just require certain testing procedures. Don’t forget to let the school board know your children won’t be attending their schools any longer.

Get your kids outside! You can use these in a number of ways. Have smaller children collect some leaves. Another teaching opportunity would be identifying different tree species and listing them in a notebook. Older kids might investigate the various species they run across. Allow them to bring a camera so they don’t bother mother nature.

There are always new things that you can learn, even when you are the teacher. Read more articles and go to workshops and seminars to prepare yourself for homeschooling. This will make sure that your homeschool environment will always be the best for them.

pupils were imprisoned Tuesday included in the massive Columbia University narcotic bust. The students stated nothing that morning while they were handcuffed and taken away. The pupils are being charged for marketing narcotics worth thousands of dollars, and they did it straight form dorm rooms and fraternity houses. Possibly if they could find out how to get a payday advance loan they might not have been selling narcotics. Resource for this article – Columbia University drug bust – five students arrested by MoneyBlogNewz.
Those possible associated with the Columbia University drug bust
Paying tuition had been the reason given by student for selling drugs. The Columbia Spectator reports that this was the response from suspects in the Columbia University drug bust. 20 year old Adam Klein, Chris Coles, Jose Perez and Harrison David along with 22 year old previous student council member Michael Wymbs were all charged with selling LSD, Adderall, marijuana, ecstasy and cocaine on school campuses in their dormitories and fraternity houses.
Wymbs had been expected to be released Tuesday night after being the only one prepared to pay the $25,000 bail said a spokesperson for the Narcotics Prosecutor’s Office. The other four were taken away. Rikers Island was where they went. The primary target of the investigation had been really David. An $880 sale of about 20 grams of cocaine had been sold by him in September, as he had been the only one to sell cocaine. The first few purchases by undercover detectives came from David when the other four were in October and Nov. finally introduced to the drug deal game. July had been when the investigation was started. About $11,000 in sales went to undercover officers only since then with the Columbia University drug bust.
    These were good students before
In terms of grades and extracurricular, defense lawyers spoke highly of the students associated with the Columbia University drug bust. Michael Wymbs said to a detective that his father wouldn’t pay for his tuition forcing him to sell drugs, although he was the Engineering Student Council’s vice president in 2007 to 2008 for his class. Chris Coles was like Wymbs a bit in that he had a clean record and a 3.5 GPA before the drugs. He said paying tuition had been the reason for selling drugs as well. Jose Perez (aka Stephan Vincenzo) is a prestigious Gates Millenium Scholar who has “limited financial ability,” reports to Bloomberg.
The university site explains that the 2010-11 academic year of tuition is costly. It runs about $41,600.

The logic of it makes perfect sense: teens don’t function at high levels early in the morning. So the results of a study from the Eastern Virginia Medical school aren’t too shocking: when high schools start too early, teens are more likely to crash their cars on the way there.

The study compared teen accident rates between Virginia Beach and Chesapeake counties, two adjacent Virginia counties with differing school start times.

Robert Vorona, a sleep doctor at the school, compiled data on drivers between 16 and 18 in the two counties. In Virginia Beach, the high schools start at 7:20 a.m., and in Chesapeake, 8:40 a.m.

While the time difference was seemingly minimal, the crash data was drastically different.

Among students who started school very early in Virginia Beach, there were 65.4 car crashes for every 1,000 teen drivers. In Chesapeake County, there were just 46.2 crashes per 1,000 teen drivers.

That is a 40% crash rate increase for schools starting a little over an hour earlier.

While this particular study didn’t account for the time of day of the crashes, this is not the first time school start times have been linked to the crash rate.

A 2008 study in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine showed a 16% decrease in accidents when a Kentucky school pushed start times back.

Falling asleep at the wheel is obviously dangerous, but for a new driver, merely being tired can have just as poor an effect on their driving.

To anyone who has ever lived with a teenager, this need for sleep isnt news. The average teen needs 9.25 hours of sleep and typically cant fall asleep until 11, so its no wonder that later start times help.

Several lobbyist groups are already pressuring schools to adopt earlier start times. If you don’t have time to get involved, there are a few things you can do to ensure that your teens are getting enough sleep.

Try turning off cell phones, computers, etc an hour or two before your teen needs to go to sleep so they can start winding down.

Avoid too many caffeinated beveragesand avoid caffeine entirely after 4 p.m.

Consider going over your teens daily schedule with them. When alarms start to go off at 6 a.m., and extracurricular activities last until 6 or 7 p.m., it can be hard to find time to juggle homework and a social life. Learning time management strategies from a young age ensures they can make time for sleep well into their adult life as well.

If your teen still didnt get the necessary amount of sleep, dont let them bike or drive to school. They may hate you for it, but at least they wont be a hazard to themselves or others on the road.

In the UK Teaching Assistants are still not officially required to hold any formal qualifications. However, in reality most schools now only fill new Teaching Assistant posts with qualified people. This means completing a Teaching Assistant Course is a good move.

Finding the correct Teaching Assistant course for you takes a little of your time and some careful research. There are 2 main kinds of Teaching Assistant courses available. They are divided up into work related or work based courses, a subtle but important difference. Which course you can take depends on your personal work circumstances.

The NVQ courses are all work based. To qualify to do an NVQ course you need to currently be working in a classroom, in an assistance role. You will also need to find a teacher or a similar person to act as a mentor for you. Your role at the school need not be a paid role you could just be working at the school as a volunteer.

Instead of taking an NVQ course you could choose to take a BTEC course instead. Like the NVQ a BTEC course is work based, so you must be working in a classroom to complete the course. There are 3 levels of BTEC course, which is right for you depends on your current level of responsibility and how experienced you are. In order to take a BTEC course you usually need to have passed a few GCSEs or equivalent qualifications.

There are several other Teaching Assistant Certification or Diploma courses that do not require you to be currently working in a classroom. These are considered to be work related courses. You can take these courses remotely without stepping foot in a classroom, however at the end of most of these courses you are usually assessed in a classroom environment.

What Will I Learn in Photography Courses?

There are a number of skills to learn when you embark on increasing your understanding of photography. The depths to which these courses go and the topics they cover vary depending on the program. However, many courses have some basic topics in common.

The basics of photography include a number of components, including film, speed, composition and lighting. These are the cornerstones of learning to shoot well-composed pictures. Companies offering photography courses may package these concepts in a class called Photography 101 or Photography Basics. A good course will focus first on the basic concepts of photography first, such as film and processor speeds, and move into the physical portion of taking photographs. One of the most important parts of learning photography is sticking to a specific concept or act until you master it. For example, if you select a camera speed, you should continue to shoot at that speed until you completely understand how it works.

Once you cover the basic concepts and actions of photography, you may move into the tools used by photographers. Such courses may cover tripod usage, film, lenses and flashes. Each of these tools is essential to creating better photographs. Intermediate courses may move into the composition, lighting and topics that emphasize advance focusing, f-stop and aperture. Other subjects may include portraiture, action photography and photo editing.

    What Equipment Will I Need?

The type of equipment you choose relies heavily on what you want to accomplish and what makes you comfortable. Cameras can cost a substantial amount of money, along with the purchase of lenses, data communications tools, flashes and equipment. If you would like to learn film photography, you can use a single lens reflex, or SLR, camera. If you prefer the ease of sharing and transferring your photographs digitally, a digital single lens reflex, or DSLR, camera may be suitable. You can even learn photography using some of the more advance point-and-shoot systems, which cost less and do not require as much equipment.

The basic items you should obtain are the camera itself, any film you plan to use, and if applicable, a tripod, carrying case and at least one additional lens. This will provide you a solid starter kit that offers some flexibility in producing a range of photographs.
