    Wingate University is a small, private institution with an enrollment of 2,500 students. The universitys main campus is located 30 miles southeast of Charlotte in Wingate, North Carolina. There are satellite campuses in Matthews and Hendersonville, North Carolina. The Wingate University Bulldogs play NCAA Division II sports in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC). Their 2012 football schedule includes 6 home games and 5 games on the road. Seven games are against SAC rivals.

    Wingates first three games will be played against non-conference opponents. The Wingate season opener will be an away game, scheduled for September 1 against St. Augustines College in Raleigh. This will be the first time these two teams have met. The kickoff will be at 1:30pm. The Bulldogs home opener is scheduled for September 8 at 1:30pm against Albany State University. This non-conference opponent is always a strong competitor. Wingate will face UNC Pembroke at home on September 15.

    The universitys first 2012 conference game is scheduled for September 22 at Brevard College. The September 29 game will be against conference rival Carson-Newman in Jefferson City, Tennessee. Wingate has won its last two contests against Carson-Newman. The Bulldogs will play at home on October 6 against Mars Hill College. This conference game has been designated as Family Day. Wingate University will face conference rivals Newberry College on October 13 at Newberry, South Carolina and Catawba College on October 20 at home.

    Wingate fans will celebrate Homecoming on October 27 against Lenoir-Rhyne University, another South Atlantic Conference team. Homecoming Weekend will include a variety of special activities including a parade, 5K Run, golf tournament, and several class reunions. The game kickoff is scheduled for 1:30pm. The Bulldogs will finish their 2012 season with a non-conference game at North Greenville College in Tigerville, South Carolina on November 3, and a conference game at home against Tusculum College on November 11. Conference playoffs will begin on November 17 at sites to be determined.

    The Wingate Bulldogs are coached by Joe Reich, who has a 71-49 record in 11 years as head coach. Wingate home games are played in the universitys Irwin Belk Stadium, which seats 3,000 fans. Single game tickets are $12 for general admission seating and $16 for reserved seats. On campus parking is available. Wingate University is located 6 miles south of Monroe, North Carolina off US Hwy 74 in Wingate. Fans should enter campus at the main gate and drive 1 mile on Camden Road to Irwin Belk Stadium.
