These new nursing degree courses give students the choice between completing a single-field course in 3 years and a dual-field course in 4 years.

The single-field nursing degree course can be completed in the child, adult or mental health fields of practice. Whereas the dual-field nursing degree course can either be completed in the adult and mental health, or adult and child fields of practice.

These new nursing degree programmes are leading the way in training and were designed to prepare nurses to lead discovery through research-based training and creating change through innovation.

The BN nursing degree curriculum at the University of Southampton was highly rated by the NMC on several points, in particular the Southampton values-based model’ which emphasises the vital importance of intelligent, compassionate and sensitive care.

Southampton nursing degree students are made to focus on their attitudes, beliefs, values and professionalism from the outset, to ensure that patients receive the high quality care they deserve.

Key characteristics of the BN nursing degree programme include: an emphasis on research based learning, the development of graduate attributes, grading of practice, and the joined-up inter-professional approach to shared learning between nurses, midwives and their physiotherapy, occupational therapy and podiatry colleagues.

The University of Southampton also offers an MN masters degree in nursing: this graduate entry programme will enable students to become highly competent, knowledgeable and skilful practitioners, who are able to provide the highest quality care in their chosen field.

Many former University of Southampton students are now in senior positions in the NHS and other healthcare organisations. In 2009, 93% of the University of Southamptons Health Sciences graduates found work or enrolled in further study.

New opportunities are made available to those students who work diligently to learn English. There is a great demand for bilingual people in the fields of education, global commerce, and telecommunications. These are just a few of the industries a person might try finding a job in after they have successfully completed ESL courses. The sky’s the limit for professionals that have mastered many languages.

Perhaps you are wondering what one is supposed to learn when taking ESL courses. Well, someone teaching these classes will want to help students learn how to speak, read, write, and listen to the English language. All of the skills must be mastered in order for someone to consider themselves fluent. It is not enough to be proficient in just two or three of the four aspects covered in the curriculum.

During ESL courses, there is a lot of time spent discussing grammar, sentence structure, and tenses. Some languages of the world are considered much easier to learn because they do not use as many tenses. Typically, a student is taught about the present tense before they try to grasp the concept of past tense, future tense, and so forth. Along the tense, students in ESL courses learn the basic pronouns and a list of commonly used nouns and verbs. With words of each type mastered, a person can begin to form basic sentences.

Pronunciation is also an important part of being comfortable with English. Once students have a sizable vocabulary of words, they might enjoy watching television or listening to music in order to hear the words they know and listen to how they are used in phases and sentences. If non-native speakers are able to fine-tune their listening skills, they will be better equipped to answer questions and carry on conversations with others.

Are you a non-native speaker interested in enrolling in ESL courses? You might want to consider taking these classes while studying abroad in an English-speaking country. Immersion is the best way to learn a language. It forces a person to put their newfound skills to good use on a regular basis. Plus, those abroad get to practice reading signs, listening to people at bus stops, watching TV news, answering questions while ordering food at a restaurant, and in a thousand other ways. It can seem daunting to enter these kinds of situations at first, but most find they can converse more fluidly and get themselves around their new foreign city without any problem in about a week’s time. Then, it just becomes more and more enlightening from that moment on.

In an article in the May/June issue of Foreign Affairs, Richard C. Levin, the president of Yale University, discusses the rise of Asias universities, arguing that Asia is now focused on building universities that can compete with the finest in the world.

Levin says that developing top universities is a tall order but that both China and India are making substantial investments into developing their institutions of higher learning.

“World-class universities achieve their status by assembling scholars who are global leaders in their fields. In the sciences, this requires first-class facilities, adequate funding and competitive salaries and benefits.”

China, he says, is making substantial investments on all three fronts.

“It takes more than research capacity alone for a nation to develop economically, however. It takes well-educated citizens of broad perspective and dynamic entrepreneurs capable of independent and original thinking. The leaders of China, in particular, have been very explicit in recognizing that two elements are missing from their universities: multi-disciplinary breadth and the cultivation of critical thinking.

“The traditional Asian approaches to curriculum and pedagogy may work well for training line engineers and mid-level government officials, but they are less suited to fostering leadership and innovation. Students who aspire to be leaders in business, medicine, law, government or academia need the discipline of mind the ability to adapt to constantly changing circumstances, confront new facts, and find creative ways to solve problems. Cultivating such habits requires students to be more than passive recipients of information; they must learn to think for themselves.”

India, he writes, established five Indian Institutes of Technology in the 1950s and 1960s, and 10 more in the past 20 years. These are “outstanding institutions for educating engineers,” Levin says, but not competitive globally in research. The “egalitarian politics” of India have made it difficult to develop world-class research universities.

Levin does think India has one powerful advantage of China though, and that is in the freedom of the faculty to pursue their intellectual interests and for both faculty and students to express and test “heretical and unconventional theories.”

“Asian countries,” Levin concludes, “have increasing access to the human, physical, and informational resources needed to create top universities. If they concentrate their growing resources on a handful of institutions, tap a worldwide pool of talent, and embrace freedom of expression and freedom of inquiry, they will succeed in building world-class universities.”

When you want to learn more about how to get your time management under control, time management courses are the way to go. Did you know that you can take short and simple time management courses that will put you on the right track to doing more with each and every day you are given?

Imagine being able to go to bed at night feeling accomplished and sleep well knowing that youve completed what you were supposed to that day. This is what healthy time management can do for you and if youve been having trouble with it, this is a great time to consider a time management course.

Wouldnt you want to take the steps needed to learn to better manage your time and improve your personal productivity?

Time management training comes in different forms. For example, you may attend a time management workshop to show you some new techniques or activities to try. Sometimes your place of business may send you to time management courses of some type.

Many new time management courses also include time management videos. These videos give you a direct visual of the policies and practices they are trying to teach you in the class. Many people work better when they can see things right in front of them like that.

Many time management videos used in training courses are meant to help you understand how to apply the practices or activities for time management. So many people find that they can learn better with visuals like a video instead of just reading in a book or workbook.

Many time management courses are now being offered online and you can take them in the comfort of your own home at your own schedule.

This is an important consideration for anyone whether you work for a big business, work for your own business, work as a homemaker or more. There are so many things the average person has to juggle in their daily lives that literally anyone can benefit from this type of course.

If you feel like the things in your life control you instead of you controlling your time, then you may be one of many people who can benefit from time management courses.

Learn to take back the time that is yours and not let it control you. Learn to be more productive when the time you do have each day and how you can make more time for the things you want to do by successfully completing the things you need to do and getting rid of the things you dont have to do.
